Segundo Píriz, rector of UNIE Universidad, joins the Royal European Academy of Doctors
On 28 May 2025, Segundo Píriz Durán, Rector of UNIE Universidad, part of Planeta Formación y Universidades, was invested as a Member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED) in a solemn ceremony held in the Paraninfo of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
In his acceptance speech, entitled ‘The university in the second decade of the 21st century: between crisis and globalisation’, Píriz analysed the main challenges facing the university institution, proposing strategies to strengthen the system in a context marked by the economic crisis and globalisation.
His academic and professional excellence has been widely recognised. In 2016, he received the National Legion of Honour of Mexico in Mexico City, and in 2017, the Recognition for Educational Excellence in Ibero-America (mention Educator) at the EduAction 2017 Conference. In the same year, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) awarded him the medal commemorating the Centenary of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, in recognition of his close collaboration with Mexican universities.
