Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly integrated into our daily lives and its use is growing exponentially every day. Planeta Formación y Universidades, the Grupo Planeta's higher education network, has officially presented its Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence, Planeta Formación y Universidades - Nex·ia; a high-impact strategic initiative that was created with the aim of becoming an international benchmark for specialised education and applied research, placing artificial intelligence at the epicentre of educational and business innovation.

With this initiative, Planeta Formación y Universidades reinforces its commitment to higher education aligned with the demands of the working environment, committing to a model that connects knowledge, talent and technology. The alliance with Google Cloud and Deloitte also consolidates an innovation ecosystem capable of positioning the centre as an international benchmark in the practical application of artificial intelligence.

Planeta Formación y Universidades - Nex·ia, is born with four elements as its work axes. Firstly, training and education as the main focus, not only with the application of AI as a tool but also with the introduction of this in the training contents of the higher education network. Secondly, the development of an AI Lab to work on application use cases with the academic community. The third point, research, once again highlights the value of its network of teachers and researchers of excellence specialised in AI. Finally, with this project, Planeta Formación y Universidades positions itself as a reference for change for students, teachers and organisations seeking to face the future with intelligent tools, optimised processes and data-based decisions in the field of AI.

The presentation ceremony, with Google Cloud and Deloitte, which took place this morning at the UNIE - Tres Cantos university campus, was attended by Isaac Hernández, Country Manager Google Cloud Iberia, Carmen Sánchez Tenorio, partner in charge of Technology & Transformation at Deloitte, and Carlos Giménez, CEO of Planeta Formación y Universidades.

At the official opening of the centre, Isaac Hernández underlined ‘Google Cloud is focused on ensuring that artificial intelligence is a valuable and accessible tool for both individuals and businesses. We are delighted to collaborate with Planeta Formación y Universidades and Deloitte on this Nex·ia initiative, supporting their efforts to effectively integrate AI into higher education and professional development.’ .

For her part, Carmen Sánchez Teonorio, highlighted that ‘at Deloitte, we firmly believe that the key is to combine the power of technology with talent. This alliance with Planeta Formación y Universidades and Google Cloud allows us to drive real transformation, connecting innovation, human capabilities and purpose. Nex·ia is a technological innovation centre of reference. At Deloitte, we bring to it our experience in applied AI, our deep knowledge of the transformation needs of the different ecosystems - business, talent and society - and, all of this, materialising it in the development of real use cases with high impact’.

On his side, Carlos Giménez emphasised ‘The research project is born with a clear academic, technological and social vocation.  Planeta Formación y Universidades - Nex·ia, promotes an ecosystem of excellence in which knowledge generation and talent development converge. With this project, our mission is to integrate artificial intelligence into higher education, generating real and sustainable value’.

The centre was presented by Jordi Marín, director of the project, who explained: ‘Our challenge is not only to understand AI, but to make it useful, human and transformative for education, work, business and society. We created an AI Centre not to follow trends, but to lead a transformation that improves how we learn, how we innovate and how we build tomorrow’.

The centre is located on the UNIE - Tres Cantos university campus, which has more than 20,000 m² and focuses on the education of undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational students. This campus focuses on areas such as Business & Tech, Science and Technology, Health, Audiovisual, and Marketing and Communication. Located in the heart of the audiovisual industry, it has first class facilities including technological spaces, laboratories such as the XrLab and AI-based simulation classrooms.

Planeta Formación y Universidades - Nex·ia has already launched the first education initiative in Google Cloud artificial intelligence tools, with resources and sessions aimed at both students and teachers. The project kicked off last April with an inaugural session by Conchita Díaz, Google Cloud AI trainer.

As part of its commitment to innovative and excellent higher education, Planeta Formación y Universidades already has initiatives on AI studies. The ‘Artificial Intelligence and employability of the future for higher education students’ report, prepared by GAD3 for Planeta Formación y Universidades, which was presented in September 2024, analysed students' perception of the challenges, opportunities and consequences of AI in their professional future. A total of 3,600 higher education students aged 18-35 from Spain, France and Italy, as well as Colombia, participated in the study.
