Last Thursday, 17 September, UNIE Universidad and VIU took part as sponsors in the 2nd Tribute to Nursing, an event organised by the newspaper La Razón which, in this second edition, focused on recognising the nursing profession and the main challenges relating to mental health and social and healthcare in Spain.

Following a first edition dedicated to the work of nurses in the field of oncology, this second tribute has focused the discussion on mental health, an area in which nursing professionals play a vital role in prevention, support and the ongoing care of patients.

The event was presided over by Her Majesty Queen Letizia, who is particularly committed to raising awareness of mental health. The conference brought together representatives from leading healthcare institutions, professional organisations and scientific societies, who took part in various panel discussions to analyse the current challenges facing mental health and the role of specialist nursing.

Representing UNIE University were the Vice-Chancellor, Segundo Píriz; the Secretary-General, María José Molina; and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Marta Rodríguez, alongside representatives of the academic staff. The participation of both institutions – which belong to the Planeta Formación y Universidades education network – in this meeting reinforces the group’s commitment to the training and development of professionals who play a vital role in the healthcare system.

During the conference, participants discussed the growing importance of mental health in Spanish society and the need to continue developing care models that integrate prevention, care and support for individuals. In this context, specialist nursing is establishing itself as a key player in meeting the health needs of the population.

The participation of Planeta Formación y Universidades, UNIE Universidad and VIU in the 2nd Tribute to Nursing highlights their shared commitment to high-quality university education, which is aligned with the real needs of the healthcare sector and geared towards developing professionals who are equipped to tackle the new challenges in healthcare and patient care.
